Loose Ends

In these last few days before dismantling the SoAG window installation, I have been thinking about the evolution of this show, and how "loose ends" came together in a more dynamic way than would be possible in a gallery exhibition. To keep it brief, I am posting two images. One is a detail of Mme Roland tapestry. The other is the back of the tapestry-in-progress, the secrets of the process laid bare. It is a metaphor for all shows. We see what is beautifully hung on the wall or sitting on a pedestal or gallery floor. What we don't see is all the work that goes into creating a show. It's not just making the art work, but packing, delivering and installing it. My window installation "performance" photos suggest this process. If you are around on Sunday, you can witness the last performance as the pieces are removed, repacked and returned to Elmira. It's a bittersweet time, i.e., taking down a show. This is probably the most memorable one I have ever been a part of. Coronavirus? I will remember "Online & Through the Window" and have tales to tell...
